Netplay is keeping Smash alive (but pissing everyone off)

I then realized the underlying, amazing potential since this is, in a way, an all-in-one emulator. Would it be possible to create a lobby or matchmaking system for retro games? Since all of the netplay stuff can be handled from the command line, someone could write a launcher that handles all of the handshaking and voice chat and all that and then spawns off a RetroArch instance with the proper switches attached. Perhaps there could just be a Kaillera-like lobby, and users could create their own servers? Retroarch could just scan a master-list of servers. Well, down the toilet that goes… Is there any other way to seamlessly connect players, or is this truly a lost cause? And it is a darn good thing that retroarch is built that way, rather than implementing all bells and whistles and becoming a feature hog. Unix philosophy for the win. It is no lost cause at all, just a matter of will and time. Hey guys, I too used to play on Kaillera and nobody really uses it anymore.

GGPO short for Good Game Peace Out is middleware designed to help create a near- lagless online experience for various emulated arcade games and fighting games. The program was created by Tony Cannon, co-founder of fighting game community site Shoryuken and the popular Evolution Championship Series. Video game companies have also implemented a licensed version of GGPO. Rather than waiting for input to be received from other players before simulating the next frame, GGPO predicts the inputs they will send and simulates the next frame without delay using that assumption.

The hope is that the predictions will be correct most of the time, allowing smooth play with minimal sudden changes to the game state. The client program can allow players to manually adjust native input delay in high-ping situations, either creating a possibly-jerky yet accurate representation or a smoother game with input delay. GGPO was originally bundled with a client which enabled users to play supported games online with other players.

A matchmaking system allowed players to request challenges from other users, while non-participants could spectate the match and chat. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Retrieved Retrieved 6 June Get it here!

Either way please let me know if theres an option to add “custom games” to the Geo-Filter list :. We removed that ability in DumaOS as people would often use port 80 etc and it would cause issues. The easiest workaround now is to give your PC a console device type in the Device Manager then re-add it to the Geo-Filter. It will add with the console service and that will allow you to see all the servers and filter if possible. The ports the game is using are UDP If i change my PC to a console device type, does the geo filter scan these ports?

Im not sure what ports the console device type scans but could that UDP range be part of it? These are the ports of an extremly popular emulator netplay version of Super Smash Brothers Melee, it even has a matchmaking P2P mode but playing vs high-ping oversea enemies is kind of annoying. Yes it does, it covers ports which is what all games generally use without including ports that could interact with general internet activity. If it’s P2P then it should in theory work with the Geo-Filter!

As a suggestion, what about offering the “custom geo-filter” again but exclude the ports that can cause any harm? Alternatively that console device trick works like a charm, got no problems with using that instead! That is great to hear, glad to hear it is working! Given the console trick does it, there is no need to spend any more development time on it but I do understand what you’re saying.
